Healthbars, core mechanics, bugfixes and the way forward.
Healthbars!
Finally got healthbars! You can now see the health of your enemies! And guess what, they're 3D! It took a little while to implement, and a couple of iterations from 2D to 3D, and from them always being visible to only when damaged before landing on something I am happy with. I'm also experimenting a little with the visual style of the project, but nothing's final yet and I probably won't focus a lot on anything visual before I have most of the core mechanics down and stuff like that. But enough of that. I hope you guys like the healthbars, and if you discover any bugs or have any suggestions please do leave a comment.
Enemies are now harder to spot the more hurt they are!
I'm not sure what to call this mechanic, but basically, the more hurt an enemy is the more transparent it is. This plays into the health management mechanic, as it might be beneficial to have low health if you're trying to hide or sneak around. Took a couple of tries to get right, and a lot of lag because of the way I implemented it at first cough foreach loops and getting children in update cough but after some optimizing the framerate's back to normal.
Bugfixes!
As in the previous devlog, I'm not going to go in depth on anything, and many bugs were too small to be mentioned here.
-Fixed an issue where the enemy hitbox was too small, making them hard to hit and were they were clipping through the ground.
-Fixed an issue where you (again) couldn't jump while on certain parts of the ground before shooting at the ground.
Better itch page!
As you may have noticed the itch page is getting some upgrades with screenshots, clips and a proper description. Thought it was looking a little bland.
The way forward
In the coming weeks I'm going to be working on Multiplayer. I've decided that putting it off will just make it harder when I do decide to implement it, and that it's better to implement it early in development. It's probably going to be hell though, and that may delay updates for a while as it will probably take a while to implement. Wish me luck and I'll see you all on the other side!
Yet another reminder that I have a trello board
Just a little reminder that you can track my progress at my trello board.
Take care, and have fun!
